SYNOPSIS

Jenny Mason (Kim Jiang) is a Korean adoptee and aspiring photographer, who works as a barista at a hip cafe in NYC and keeps a safe emotional distance from everyone around her. But after being forced out of her apartment, she moves in with Bea, a beautiful model who also makes straight A's in school.

Despite her pristine facade, Bea harbors insecurities, which bring down Jenny's guard and allows a tender friendship to form. When the artist Simon enters Jenny's world offering her a chance to truly connect, her adoptive brother Joe reappears and stirs long-suppressed feelings from her past.

Writer/Director Joy Dietrich creates a rich character piece exploring the complex hearts and spirited minds of today's young Americans of Asian descent. Her nuanced feature debut holds truths in its reticence, and Kim Jiang turns in a stunning performance, balancing Jenny's inner turmoil with her admirably strong will. Refusing to tie the yellow ribbon into a happy bow ending, Dietrich lets Jenny's story naturally and realistically unfold, imperfections, triumphs, and hardships intact.

After the screening, walk a few blocks and you'll get a chance to speak to the director, the actors, the crew and the producers at the lounge, Stir.

Also if anyone has the munchies, Stir has promised to keep their kitchen open until midnight. They serve an eclectic mix of food.

I am glad that yKAN has participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life for the past three consecutive years.
