The West 32nd panel will include:

at the Tribeca Film Festival (tickets are available for sale at the
Festival door). We will also be holding a mixer afterwards at Players (25W 32nd Street, 2nd Floor)
We look forward to seeing you there!
Edmund Lee, West 32nd Co-writer
As a reporter for the Village Voice, Edmund Lee investigated the rise of Korean crime groups in New York that emerged in the wake of the Chinese Tongs that fell in the Eighties. But the larger story behind these crime groups would find further exposure on screen in West 32nd. Inspired by the true-life workings of this hidden subculture he wrote the script with Michael Kang. It is a New York drama about acceptance and betrayal, ultimately, a needful tale about Korean American life. His writing has also appeared in the New York Times, New York Magazine, Vibe Magazine , and the New York Daily News. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and daughter.
Lanny Joon, "Saeng"
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio as Lanny Joon Kim, he moved to Los Angeles as a year old. Growing up in California, Lanny had an itch to act- but never had the time nor the opportunity because of his long, awaited commitment of swimming his way into college. Though acting continuously played a significant role in his life, it never really revealed itself until moving to New York City to attend NYU. Partially majoring in Theatre (though he had never acted before), Lanny made acting a reality by starring in several stage shows during his student years and then upon graduation in 2005 began performing in regional and off off Broadway theatre productions such as
Take Me Out, A Thousand Cranes, and The Dispute just to name a few. "West 32nd" is his ice breaker into the realm of Film- a continuing pursuit of his long, lived dream of one day becoming what we call- an actor .
Hans Kim, "Kyuc"
Born in Bolivia and raised in Costa Rica & Venezuela, Hans emigrated to New York City at the age of 15. During his childhood, Hans would often emulate Latin and Korean soap opera actors and comedians. Upon his arrival to New York, Hans was approached by numerous talent scouts and eventually signed with " NY NY Modelling" Agency. Hans pursued his passion for acting and trained at the New York Film Academy . Currently, Hans continues to train and practice acting.

COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE REPORT by Julie Cho and Domina Park
DEAR FRIENDS,

Sam was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia on December 2006. He had no symptoms and the diagnosis was made after a routine blood test. Sam was enjoying a full life as a serious student, a captain of the Harvard fencing team, a member of the tennis club team and a regular volunteer at the student-run homeless shelter. In addition to academics and sports, Sam has always taken a lot of interest in helping people, including his work at the shelter and as an active tutor for underprivileged kids since high school.
Sam is on medical leave from Harvard where he was expected to graduate with a Physics/Math degree this June. He finished two rounds of chemotherapy at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. His follow-up treatments will be at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. He will most likely need a bone marrow transplant to increase his chance of being cured from this terrible disease. Sam is part Korean and part Caucasian, and this makes finding a match particularly difficult. The donor registry needs more donors of all ethnic backgrounds, but minority and mixed-background donors are particularly needed. Any donor could be a match for Sam. Of course, we do not expect most donors to help Sam specifically, but there are many other patients like him.
How You Can Help:
JOIN THE NATIONAL MARROW DONOR PROGRAM?(NMDP) REGISTRY.
Every day, thousands of patients just like Sam are searching for a volunteer donor--someone like you--who could save their life. It's easy and painless, and involves only filling out a brief form and taking a simple cheek swab. To join the Registry, you must be 18 to 60, in good health and committed to helping any patient in need. There are several donor drives where you can stop by and register in person. Or you can register at anytime from anywhere online.
We encourage you to contact DKMS Americas, http://dkmsamericas.org or 1-866-340-DKMS (3567) for a donor registration kit. Donation is welcome but not required.
If you are fully or partially of Asian heritage, you can register for free at anytime through www.aadp.org (the Asian American Donor Program) or by calling 1-800-59-DONOR for a free kit.
The registration process is very simple. Once you register online, you will receive a kit in the mail. The kit contains everything you need including kit instructions and the consent form. When you mail back the kit, your tissue is typed and we add your name to the Registry. If you are a match, the NMDP will contact you for further evaluation.
RAISE AWARENESS.
Please share this opportunity to save a life with your friends, family members or associates. Encourage them to join the global movement of more than 10 million volunteers who are committed to giving patients a second chance at life.
OUR FRIENDS.
We are working with the following non-profit organizations to raise awareness and promote bone marrow donor recruitment of all healthy people between 18 to 60 of all backgrounds:
yKAN Soup Kitchen
Thanks to all the volunteers for braving the cold, ice and sleet, to participate in the yKAN Community Service event at Father's Heart Ministry this Saturday. This community service event is a true testament of dedication to the community service spirit!
Also, mucho thank you for the energy and warm professionalism exhibited throughout the organic chaos. Despite the constant running back and forth, volunteers were upbeat and did a fantastic job cooking, serving, cleaning and sharing a few words with the customers.
One of the non-yKAN volunteers commented that the yKAN volunteers were outgoing, social and friendly.
Thanks to all the volunteers, especially Abby Ahn, Brian Lee, David Im, Elizabeth Lee, Jane Hwang, Jaz Park, Jin Lim, Jonathon Carfield, Julie Cho, Julie Madaio, Maria Lee, Misun Woo, Sarah Wind, Seunghee Do, and Steve Lee. Special thanks to Jaz for the tour of the East Village and the fabulous recommendation for brunch at Flea Market Cafe.
If you would like to view photos from the day's event, please click here. Additional thanks to Julie Cho for sharing the memories.
You guys and gals rock.
Sincerely,
Janet Lee and Domina Park (Designee)

MARCH GENERAL MEETING RECAP by Matthew Im
"Financial Planning for Young Professionals Workshop" by guest speaker David A Frisch, CPA, CFP, PFS
On the evening of Thursday March 22nd, 2007 at the Korea Society David Frisch led an interactive discussion into broad based financial planning for young professionals. He discussed individual topics such as credit scores, insurance, debt management and wills while answering the questions based on the rooms participants. As expected the attendees were very interested in finding answers to their individual situations and David incorporated each person into the presentation. One such topic that he covered was the different types of IRA’s and the benefits to each in respect to young professionals. Most importantly David made sure to emphasize the importance of investments made at an earlier age because of the power of compounding and limited doubling periods. Overall it was a great financial education seminar for the varied group of yKAN members.
Thank you to everyone who attended,
Matthew Im

*******Looking to talk with people IMMEDIATELY********
True Life is MTV's award-winning series that covers diverse topics that are important to our audience, ranging from pop culture trends to breaking news issues. Topics in the past have included hard hitting topics such as drug addiction (crystal meth, oxycontin, etc), parents divorcing, to much lighter subjects such as being a Justin Timberlake fan. True Life crews are able to blend into the background to capture life unscripted and untouched. This enables us to tell stories from the voices and points-of-view of our characters ?putting the series in a unique position of reflecting the state of youth culture at any given moment. And, since the series premiere in 1998, MTV's audience has kept wanting more ?constantly tuning in, making True Life the most popular documentary series in our channel's history.
"Legit documentary-style programs about real-life families ?such as MTV's "True Life" ?will get you right back in front of the old TV where you belong," says Linda Stasi of the New York Post.
