• Advancement Chair: Neil Park

    Neil works at EMC Corporation, where he leads engineering teams and is responsible for developing new infrastructure management solutions for software defined datacenters.  Neil’s track record is delivering solutions to EMC’s strategic partners in the telecommunications and financial markets.  Prior to EMC, Neil worked at Marvel Entertainment and McGraw-Hill Companies in Information Technology.

    Since 1998 Neil has been involved with volunteer work, fundraising, and community service with relief missions to refugee camps in the Balkans, supporting orphanages in Mexico and Kenya, development of clean water initiatives in east Africa, and creating educational programs in rural China.

    Neil is also a published landscape photographer, semi-professional event photographer, and authors a photography blog.

    Parenting Group Chair: Kathy Kim & Angie Chung

    Angie Chung is a Sociology professor at the University at Albany, SUNY and a former visiting professor at Yonsei and Korea University.  She received her BA at Yale (1996) and her Ph.D. at UCLA (2001).  Her first book Legacies of Struggle looks at 1.5/ 2nd generation Korean American organizations in Koreatown, Los Angeles.  She is a native of NJ and currently lives with her family in Mahwah, NJ.

    Kathy Kim have been with yKAN since 2011.  She is thrilled to meet many other young Korean American parents to share parenting tips and to provide her son with more learning opportunities about the Korean culture. She has a background in residential retail and wholesale mortgage underwriting.  Kathy holds a BA in Studio Art and Computer Science from Mount Holyoke College and she attained her MBA in Accountancy and Entrepreneurship from CUNY Baruch.  Currently, she works in the Forensic Accounting Certificate Program.

  • Chair of the Board, Director of Public Relations: Julie Cho

    Julie (Juhyun) Cho has been involved with yKAN since 2004. She first heard about yKAN when she came across an article about yKAN’s active community service involvement in the Korean newspaper, and has been an active member ever since. She would like to carry on the yKAN mission and continue to expand the scope of yKAN’s Community Service efforts within the Korean-American (KA) community. Julie personally enjoys being a part of yKAN because she loves being around her fellow generation of KA. She hopes that one day, she has the opportunity to make this world a better place by giving back to the community that has given her so much. Reflecting her love of the field of Public Health & Medicine, she is currently studying Oriental Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in NYC. Until recently, she worked for the American Cancer Society, in Queens, for seven years, managing Cancer Control programs, Advocacy, and serving cancer patients and families in the Queens region. Given that she is fluent in Korean, she managed the Korean Unit within the American Cancer Society. She has been an extremely active contributor to community service initiatives ever since high school.

    Julie was born in Seoul, South Korea and emigrated to California at the age of 6. She lived there for a short period of time, went back to Korea and subsequently came back to the U.S. in 1995 and entered Wheatley High School in Old Westbury, New York. She graduated in 2002 with a B.S. in Health Sciences with a concentration in Public & Community Health from SUNY Stony Brook.  She continued her studies at SUNY Stony Brook and graduated with an M.S.P.H. in Healthcare Policy & Management in 2003. She presently resides in Long Island.

    Director of Internal Affairs: Edmund Song

    Edmund Song currently is a Director at American Express responsible for Global New Product Strategy.  Prior to that, he was at Samsung, as member of the CEO’s Center of Excellence for Business Development & Strategy. Eddie also accumulated a breadth of experiences in consulting and technology at his tenure at McKinsey & Company. At McKinsey, he managed several application development teams that spanned online learning, financial applications, as well as cloud-hosted applications. Eddie is a graduate of Johnson & Johnson’s Information Management Leadership Development Program (IMLDP), where his rotations included Pharmaceuticals Strategic Marketing, Client Computing, Advanced Technologies Research, and Worldwide Information Security.

    Edmund is a local New Yorker, an avid foodie, freelance photographer, scuba diver, traveler, singer, with a passion for all technology. He is conversant in Korean, Japanese, and Spanish, and is always up to practicing with those who speak those languages!  He is an active career and life coach, having mentored many students from NYU’s Mentor Network, and as having served previously for yKAN’s Vice President as well as the Advancement Committee Chairman.

    His past contributions to Korean-American culture started in the late 90’s, where he was one of the founding members of the popular online Korean-American e-Magazines: Kblvd.com and KConcept.com.

    Director of Finance (Acting Treasurer): Andrew Park

    Andrew received his Bachelor of Science in Business Management at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and studied Accountancy at Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College.

    Andrew is very involved within the New York City business community and professional organizations. He is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, National Association of Certified Valuation and Analysts, and American College of Forensic Examiners Institute. In addition, Andrew volunteers his time and serves on committees of cultural and community-minded non-profit organizations. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Forensic Accountant, Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Valuation Analyst and Chartered Global Management Accountant. In addition, he holds his CPA license in the State of New York.

    Jisung Chun

    Jisung Chun served as the yKAN President in 2008 and 2009. Focus of her leadership was on growing membership through organic events and promotion, such as many networking events, concerts, picnics, and community service events. Her proudest achievement at yKAN is raising historical amount of fund and sponsorship from a single fundraiser event.

    Professionally, Jisung worked as a management/IT consultant in NYC for five years where she served many financial institutions as clients on IT integration projects. She currently works in Seoul, Korea at an internal consultant for a marine satellite communication system company. She is actively serving local organizations such as TEDxShinchon, 15Do, and Open Factory, in Korea to further her network and contribute her talent.

    Jisung enjoys meeting new people and deepening existing relationships. She loves to host dinner parties and wine & dine with good people. She is inspired to make the world a better place one person at a time. She can be contacted at jisung (dot) chun (at) gmail (dot) com.

    Michael Han

    Michael Han is one of the original founders on YKAN and served as 1st and 2nd President.

    Michael and his family relocated to California in 1998 and currently reside in the bay area.

    Michael is currently a Director of sales for BNP Paribas and he’s been in Asian Institutional Investment banking world since 1992.

    Jayne Jun

    Jayne Jun has been volunteering for yKAN since 2001, serving as its President in 2004 and as Chairman since 2010. Professionally, she is a TV producer, associate producing for NATURE, PBS’ highest rated and Emmy Award-winning documentary series. Jayne is a graduate of the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and grew up in Fort Lee, NJ.

    Kay Lee

    Age 39. Former yKAN President and current member of Board. Married with 1 child. Lives in Ridgefield, NJ. Works for Regulatory Law Firm as Exec VP of Technology in Englewood, NJ.

    Jin Ha Lim

    Jin Lim was the Vice President of technology at Morgan Stanley currently focued on integration engineering. In her tenure, she focused on security, identity management, middleware, shared service, infrastructure technologies, end-user service, and continuous improvement. Recently, she managed the technology integration between Morgan Stanley and Smith Barney. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Jin was a security consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers where she implemented security solutions to enable e-business and to comply with SOX regulation in Fortune 500 companies. Previously, she was an application developer at Hennessee Group, developing a performance tracking and client statement generation application. Jin received her B.S. in Finance, Information Systems, and Accounting from New York University, Stern School of Business. Outside of work, she is a passionate traveler, hiker, and skier.

    Paul Kim

    Prior to joining yKAN in 2002, Paul Kim was involved in various community service activities such as tutoring low-income children in Chicago. At yKAN, Paul served as Community Service Co-chair as well as Treasurer. Now that he is married with kids, he supports the yKAN Parents group.

    Paul is a management consultant serving many of the top 100 financial services companies. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Chicago and an MBA in Finance from the University of Georgia Terry School of Business.

    David Lee

    David Lee first joined yKAN in September 2003. Although he was active in the past with other community service programs, he joined yKAN to become more involved with charity organizations that assist the Korean community. He is still active with other charities such as God’s Love We Deliver, etc. David holds a Bachelor of Science with concentrations in Economics and Marketing from NYU’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, and holds a Masters of Business Administration from Fordham University with concentrations in Finance and International Operations Management.

    Michael Shin

    Michael is an attorney at a corporate law firm in New York.  Prior to his current position in yKAN, Michael served on the yKAN executive board as the social networking chairperson in 2004 as a display of his admiration for the dedication and camaraderie that are ubiquitous in yKAN’s charitable endeavors.   Today, Michael’s proudest achievement is his family, and his greatest joys emanate from his lovely wife and beautiful twin babies.  In his free time, Michael enjoys silk-screening and studio photography.

    Gary Park

    Gary Park is an attorney with more than 20 years of trial and litigation experience. He is a managing director of the law offices of Gary S. Park PC, a prominent firm located in New York, New Jersey, and California. In addition to his legal work, Mr. Park has been active with yKAN, the Young Korean Americans’ Network, a non-profit organization founded in New York that provides community and volunteer service, striving for the advancement of Korean Americans into the American mainstream. He has served with yKAN as board member, president, and chairman. Mr. Park is also a former board member of Friends of Channel 13 and was featured in WNET/Channel 13’s documentary “Korean American Spirits.” Recently, he has served on the board of Women In Need Center, which provides emergency shelter and social services to Asian women and their children. Mr. Park is also a newly-elected member of Queens Botanical Garden (QBG)’s Board of Trustees as well as the president of Korean American friends of QBG.

    Robert Oh

    Robert Oh is a 20-year veteran of management consulting, specializing in information systems within financial services companies.  He has led global initiatives and helped achieve organizational level objectives/goals.  He joined yKAN in 2001 and participated as an executive board member.  He currently resides in Northern New Jersey with his wife, Emily, and their four children.

     

     

    Jung-Yeon Lee

    Jung-Yeon Lee grew up in Seoul, South Korea.  She came to the United States in 2004 to work for a global management consulting company located in the Northern New Jersey. Jung-Yeon is a dedicated and self-directed team player with 15 years of well-balanced experience in auditing, accounting, and finance.  She currently works as an Internal AuditManager leading different types of audits.  She loves to meet people and learn new things.  She is motivated when she can be of any help to others.Jung-Yeon received her Bachelor of Arts in French Language & Literature from Ewha Womans University and her Master of Science in Business Administration (with a concentration in Accounting) from Korea University.  She is a part-time MBA student in Finance at Cotsakos College of Business at William Paterson University.Jung-Yeon holds her CPA license in the State of New Jersey.  In addition, she is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).  Jung-Yeon is a golfer. She had her first hole-in-one recently.
