2012 Executive Board

President: Edmund Song

Edmund Song currently is the Chief Business Development Officer of TMG emedia, after leaving a successful tenue at the prestigious management consulting firm, McKinsey & Company.  He is an active career and life coach, having mentored many students from NYU's Mentor Network, and as having served previously for yKAN's Vice President as well as the Advancement Committee Chairman.

Prior experiences also include Johnson & Johnson, where after graduating from their Information Leadership Development Program (IMLDP), his roles were in information security, systems architecture, and advanced technology research.  He was also the Vice President of SDR Fund Management, where he was responsible for managing a derivatives-based hedge fund.  In addition, Edmund has much experience in consulting for small start-ups in stealth mode, many which are running successfully today.  He also has been selected as 1 of 20 in North America to attend the Overseas Korean Foundation Leadership Conference in South Korea for Oct 2011.  Much of his contributions to yKAN have also been featured in The Korea Times, MK Media, The Korea Daily, NY1 News, and other various news agencies.

Edmund received his MBA at Zicklin School of Business at Baruch. He recieved his bachelors from Stern School of Business at New York University where he was one of the founding members and later Vice President of Stern's Investment Analysis Group (IAG), which was featured in ABC News, CNBC, CNN, and German national news. He was also personally recognized by TD Waterhouse's Investment Challenge as one of the top 50 traders in the country in 1999.

His past contributions to Korean-American culture started in the late 90's, where he was one of the founding members of the popular online Korean-American e-Magazines: Kblvd.com and KConcept.com.

Edmund speaks English, Korean, Spanish and Japanese.  In his spare time, he is a competition marksman, an accomplished singer/musician, a foodie, and is a published freelance photographer.

Vice President: Daniel Cho

Dan Cho is a graduate of Boston University, Mr. Cho received his B.A. in International Relations.  He is currently a Director and the New York Lobbying Compliance & Government Relations Associate at Mercury.  Prior to joining Mercury, Mr. Cho served as a strategist and advisor to New York City Councilmember Dan Halloran (R- Bayside, Queens) during the hotly contested 2009 City Council race. Following victory on Election Day, he served as an advisor on Councilmember Halloran’s transition team.

In 2009, Mr. Cho served as Deputy Campaign Manager on Republican Irene Kim Asbury’s campaign for New Jersey State Assembly (District 31) in conjunction with Chris Christie’s gubernatorial campaign operations in Hudson and Bergen counties. Prior to that, Mr. Cho served as a coordinator and national coalitions special assistant for John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign in Arlington, Virginia. In that role, he was tasked with grassroots coalition building, event planning and Asian media outreach efforts. He has also worked on several other political campaigns throughout the Northern Virginia area.

Treasurer: Andrew Park

Andrew Park started his career in finance working for Merrill Lynch. He took his financial market experience and moved to public accounting where he worked for various CPA firms practicing tax and accounting services for high net worth individuals, closely held businesses, family operations, non-profit organizations, hedge funds and alternative investment partnerships. Andrew started working independently in 2006, serving different clients of various industries.

Andrew enjoys the challenge of helping clients solve a wide range of complicated and technical business problems. Numerous clients rely on him to provide support in audits, tax planning, tax and accounting services as well as business formation, dissolution and expansion.

Andrew received his Bachelor of Science in Business Management at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and studied accountancy at Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College.

Andrew is very involved within the New York City business community and is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Andrew volunteers his time and serves on committees of cultural and community-minded non-profit organizations. In addition, he holds his CPA license in the State of New York.

Community Service Chairs: Byul Cho & Julie Cho

Byul Cho joined yKAN in 2007 where she found yKAN via Google.  She wanted to network with other Koreans with similiar interestes, and continue to build a stronger Korean community.  She received her BA in Economics and East Asian Studies at NYU.  Currently, she's a Credit Analyst at one of New York's largest banks.  Miss Cho is also an APEX mentor and is part of their steering committee.

Julie (Juhyun) Cho has been involved with yKAN since 2004. She first heard about yKAN when she came across an article about yKAN's active community service involvement in the Korean newspaper, and has been an active member ever since. She would like to carry on the yKAN mission and continue to expand the scope of yKAN's Community Service efforts within the Korean-American (KA) community. Julie personally enjoys being a part of yKAN because she loves being around her fellow generation of KA. She hopes that one day, she has the opportunity to make this world a better place by giving back to the community that has given her so much. Reflecting her love of the field of Public Health & Medicine, she is currently studying Oriental Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in NYC. Until recently, she worked for the American Cancer Society, in Queens, for seven years, managing Cancer Control programs, Advocacy, and serving cancer patients and families in the Queens region. Given that she is fluent in Korean, she managed the Korean Unit within the American Cancer Society. She has been an extremely active contributor to community service initiatives ever since high school.

Julie was born in Seoul, South Korea and emigrated to California at the age of 6. She lived there for a short period of time, went back to Korea and subsequently came back to the U.S. in 1995 and entered Wheatley High School in Old Westbury, New York. She graduated in 2002 with a B.S. in Health Sciences with a concentration in Public & Community Health from SUNY Stony Brook.  She continued her studies at SUNY Stony Brook and graduated with an M.S.P.H. in Healthcare Policy & Management in 2003. She presently resides in Long Island.

Fundraising Chair: Yong Kwon

Yong Kwon is an Investment Associate at Performance Equity. Prior to joining Performance Equity, Mr. Kwon was an Analyst at Promark Advisors. Prior to joining Promark Advisors in 2005, Mr. Kwon worked as a Marketing Analyst for the Hudson River Group, Inc. Mr. Kwon received his undergraduate degree from The Johns Hopkins University.

Social Networking Chair: Sojin Song

Sojin first encountered yKAN while representing the United States Peace Corps at the New York Asian MBA Conference in 2010.  After attending a yKAN Karaoke Night, Sojin became an official member.

Sojin attended high school at Phillips Exeter Academy and then received his BA at Columbia University.  After a few years in the financial services industry, Sojin joined the Peace Corps where he served as an Educational/NGO specialist in northern Kazakhstan.  Upon returning home, he attended the MBA program at Columbia University.

Sojin is currently an MBA admissions advisor and helps clients secure spaces at the most competitive business school programs.  In his free time, Sojin enjoys adventure travel and photography.
